Repairing Pixel 6 Pro with Graphene

Repairing Pixel 6 Pro with Graphene

  By: meredith on Jan. 12, 2024, 12:02 p.m.

My Pixel 6 Pro started acting strange a couple of weeks ago. The touchscreen would just stop responding -- couldn't even enter number to unlock the phone -- but I would reboot and it was fine. Last night it started displaying a bright white vertical line on the left. This morning the line is broader and has some colors in it. After researching, I'm hoping that it's just a loose cable connection somewhere, and not a major broken thing. I am thinking about taking to one of those UBreakIFix places, but I'm worried that they will do a factory reset or save my personal data somewhere without my permission.

My phone is still usable but the lines are annoying. Should I live with it? Any advice for repair options?

Meredith,

Sorry to hear you're having to deal with this issue. Technology is finiky sometimes and alas issues like this pop up every now and again. If we can't resolve it quickly, know that we can have you return it and replaced but let's try a few things first:

1) I wouldn't bother with the mobile phone repair shops. They charge way too much and these days a new screen costs just as much as the phone itself + labor = may as well just get a new phone.

2) Backup your data! Settings > System > Backup and related to your contacts go to main contacts page > Settings > Export and send yourself the file that is created.

3) From my experience those lines usually occur when the screen and the hardware under it are not connecting properly due to the phone being dropped or jostled at some point or due to moisture getting inside the phone. Some things to try that help "reattach" the screen to the underlying hardware are a) turn the phone off completely, get a towel, and massage the screen pressing firmly (but not super hard) on all parts of the screen and corners for 2-3 minutes. b) with the same towel and phone turned off, tap on the screen with 2 or 3 fingures all over the screen for 2-3 minutes (again, not super hard) c) put the phone in the freezer for 20-30 minutes... sounds strange but helps if there is moisture in the phone.

I hope this helps, but if you try everything in #3 above, shoot us an email support@mark37.com and we'll work on getting you a replacement. If you need us to migrate your apps/data/contacts we can talk about doing that for you as well before sending the replacement.

Thank you very much for your kind reply. I will follow these steps and let you know how it goes.

Well, I ran through these steps carefully, and while the vertical lines did not go away, they did change a little. The touch screen response is definitely improved, though.

I'm going to see if I can live with the lines. If they get worse or if performance deteriorates, I'll be in touch to buy a new phone from you. I know your company is a startup and you shouldn't have to eat the cost of a phone.

Thanks for your help.

You should not have to just live with those lines. Unless you think you caused it somehow by dropping it or getting it jammed in something, we can accept the return and send you a new device. In fact, we can send you a new device first so you can transfer your data over and then you can ship us back the damaged phone.

Either way, let's take this conversation off the forum - shoot us an email at support@mark37.com with how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.
