As of 1/20/23

F-Droid – Your Free and Open Source (FOSS) app store.

Aurora Store - Alternative app store which allows for anonymous downloading of most apps found through the Google Play Store.
*Note: We used to pre-install the "APKPure" app, however, we believe Aurora Store provides a far superior experience for users. *

Brave – One of the best web browsers currently on the market. Brave currently has the only fully independent web search engine not based on Google or Microsoft’s search indexes.

FFUpdater – An open-source browser repository... essentially an app store for browsers.

OsmAND+ - a maps app. (Will take some getting used to. Not as convenient as Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze, etc but gets you to were you need to go.)

Magic Earth - another maps app.

Weather – An open weather app. (Need to register an account at http://openweather.org to receive a free API Key to work.)

ProtonMail – One of the better privacy respecting email providers currently available on the market. ProtonCalendar can also be downloaded from the app store if needed.

K-9 Mail – An open source email client.

Simple Calendar Pro – An open source calendar app.

Jitsi Meet – An open source video conference app.

Collabora Office – An open source office app providing the ability to open MSFT Office and LibreOffice files.

RadioDroid – An open-source internet radio app.

Voice Recorder – An open source voice recorder.

Joplin – An open source note taking app.

NewPipe – An open source media player and YouTube video parser.

Telegram FOSS – An open-source Telegram client.

Truth Social – Trumps social media app.

Odysee- A first amendment respecting block-chain based video platform. The best YouTube video platform on the web. Superior to Rumble, in our opinion, although Rumble has a larger user base.

Here's some others I use that folks may want:

Tor browser (Aurora store) -F-droid version coming soon) by torproject.org

FireFox Focus browser

Antenna Pod - podcast app (Fdroid)

VLC media player (Fdroid)

Calyx VPN (free) (Fdroid)

Organic Maps (Fdroid) - new to me, testing it out it seems good, however I prefer Magic Earth in 2D mode still

All-in-one offline maps (Aurora or APK) - excellent map for hunting/hiking/outdoor use

Standard Notes - (Fdroid) excellent note app that syncs with all devices you install it on (free and paid versions)

Privacy Browser (Mojeek) (Fdroid) - UK based search engine with much better results usually than Gurgle

Metro Music player (Fdroid)

Blokada (free and paid versions) (Fdroid) - excellent ad blocker (and VPN with paid) to see connections and block any you wish. (Cannot run this and a VPN at the same time)

FireFox Focus browser

While this page still needs some development to clean up the UI content, the raw info is ready for folks to see most of these common apps at a glance:

Enjoy and check back periodically, hoping this hepls folks new to these phones get up and running quickly. The apps listed on this page above are generally safe to download and use from a privacy and security standoint. Start with F-Droid, anything not on there grab from Aurora Store and just ensure you revoke any unwanted permissions for any app you use.
