Syncing Contacts and Calendar and Backups

Hello, so happy to be getting familiar with my new degoogled phone. First time ever off of iphone. Thank you!

For backups, I would be happy to go to use of only external hard drives except for one feature of cloud storage - daily syncing of contacts and calendars. I have been planning to use pcloud to solve this problem.

Are there other ways to sync that don't involve cloud storage?

If I opt for cloud storage for these items, is pcloud the best choice with respect to privacy, security, etc.?

there is an option already on the Ghost Phone (if that's what you have) called NextCloud.
